THE FINALS of the Adria Tour tennis tournament in Zadar were canceled after it was confirmed yesterday that tennis player Grigor Dimitrov has been infected with the coronavirus.
Three more attendees are coronavirus-positive, stated Sime Vickovic, Head of the Zadar County Coronavirus Task Force for the HRT. "I would like to refrain from naming anyone, but I can say that one tennis player is coronavirus-positive." The tennis player who is coronavirus-positive is Borna Coric.
The Bulgarian tennis player played only one match in the tournament, but he hung out with a bunch of people in the last couple of days.
He was around hundreds, if not thousands of people, including many children he hung out with on Kids Day. Djokovic and Rubljev were supposed to play in the finals that are now canceled. Around four thousand people attended the tournament.
Minister of the Interior Davor Bozinovic confirmed for Index last night that new measures are being adopted in the Zadar County.
"We have decided to ban visits to hospitals and nursing homes starting Monday," Bozinovic stated for Index yesterday.
He also stated that a team of experts will be formed in Zadar to deal with this situation.
Cilic, Coric, Vekic, and others were tested last night in the parking lot, and Djokovic left for Serbia
The players and members of the Adria Tour organization team were brought to the parking lot in front of the polyclinic and the Institute of Public Health in Zadar as soon as last night. Head epidemiologist of the Zadar County Alan Medić, MD, was there to test them for coronavirus.
Novak Djokovic was not tested. He decided to return to Belgrade, where he will contact competent epidemiologists to get tested.
Testing continues today
“The entire process of epidemiological testing is underway, but it’s too soon for any detailed information. Most of the work is ahead of us; the testing has already started this evening. Many people contacted us, I cannot tell you the exact number, but we’ll have the complete epidemiological picture tomorrow,” said the competent Zadar epidemiologist.
The Zadar County Coronavirus Task Force has urged everyone who was in close contact with the player to contact the competent epidemiologist.
“The Zadar County residents who suspect to have been infected, i.e., who were in close contact with the player, should contact the competent epidemiologist at this number: +38598332765, as well as their physician. The Croatian Public Health Institute of the Zadar County will create an additional telephone line and additional competent teams as soon as today. In this situation, we want to remind everyone of the epidemiological measures in force, which, among other things, include keeping a social distance. That is the most important thing in the prevention of coronavirus. We have to stay responsible,” says the Zadar County Coronavirus Task Force.
The infected Dimitrov has been in Zadar since Wednesday, which means that he spent five days there, and yesterday he returned to Monaco, thus participating in two tennis tournaments. However, he also played football and basketball, first, with his tennis player colleagues Djokovic, Cilic, Coric, Zverev, etc., and later with the spectators as a part of the Adria Tour event. Besides tennis players, he’s been in contact with hundreds, perhaps even thousands of people in Zadar, including many children on Kids Day.
