Six new cases in Slovenia, some are imported from the Croatian coast
IN THE past 24 hours, Slovenia has tested 332 people for COVID-19 and confirmed 6 new cases of the disease, and one patient has died, the Slovenian government tweeted on Monday.
Currently 24 patients are being treated in hospitals, two of whom are in intensive care and on ventilators, the health ministry has confirmed.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic in the country a total of 2,255 people have been infected and 128 have died.
Currently there are 195 active cases while 1,927 patients have recovered, which is almost 86% of those who have contracted the disease, according to the ministry's official data.
Majority of imported cases are the result of young people partying on the Croatian coast
Slovenia's epidemiologists have been repeatedly warning that young people are in danger of contracting the disease at mass gatherings and the head of the national institute for public health has reacted sharply to reports that some night clubs on the Slovenian coast are operating contrary to instructions by the competent authorities.
Bojana Beovic from the government's response team has said that it is not the time for large gatherings and parties as seen on some Instagram posts, which, she said, reminded her of "what is happening on Zrce beach" in Croatia.
The majority of imported cases in Slovenia are the result of irresponsible behavior by young people visiting night clubs and parties on the coast in Croatia, in particular the island of Pag and its Zrce beach, she said.
